Directors and John Goras and Lloyd Kaufman’s night of chicken-cinema and cluckery at the prestigious Anthology Film Archives Saturday, January 14th at 9:00 p.m., will be benefiting their favorite feathered friends- Chickens! A portion of the proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) in hopes to fight against the cruelties of factory farming.
Troma Entertainment will be previewing a “fine cut” of PETA’s latest public service announcement concerning factory farms, produced and directed pro-bono by Kaufman. The fowl-festivities will continue with John Goras’ animated short, Chirpy, followed by Kaufman’s Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead. Both directors, Goras and Kaufman, will be in attendance.
Since it’s release in 2008, Poultrygeist has garnered the attention of many animal rights advocates. PETA described the film as “A vegetarian-manifesto masterpiece… [one of] the top 10 films that’ll inspire you to go vegetarian!” Poultrygeist was also named one of MSN.com’s Top Ten Civil Rights Films, stating “the movie is a genius satire of humanity’s blind consumption of meat.”
