Lloyd Kaufman, President of Troma Entertainment, Responds to Slate’s Chadwick Matlin

Regarding Chadwick Matlin’s March 2nd, 2010 article entitled, “A Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell: Hulu’s Mega-Popular Movie About Child Molestation,” that appeared recently in Slate‘s online magazine, I cannot imagine why he is picking on Troma Entertainment and suggesting we are pedophiles.  Who does he think we are?  The Catholic Church?  I’m very surprised to read this misinterpretation of Brett Piper’s masterpiece of stop motion animation as a piece about pedophilia.  I challenge the readers of Slate, along with anyone who works for Slate, to go to Troma’s Hulu Channel, actually watch the film, and then try to tell me that A Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell is perpetuating pedophilia.  I cannot believe Mr. Matlin watched the film.  I surmise he only watched the trailer in a very cursory manner.1

In this most ridiculous interpretation of a family oriented movie, Mr. Matlin seems to judge the film as guilty based on the tag line for its coming attractions’ trailer: “Where the prehistoric meets the prepubescent.”  Why does “prehistory,” namely dinosaurs, “meeting the prepubescent” immediately suggest pedophilia?  What kind of sick mind makes interpretations of that nature?  Perhaps Matlin should go after Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, and other blue nose members of the establishment who advocate forgiving Roman Polanski for drugging a 13 year-old girl with Quaaludes and sodomizing her!

[1] Matlin refers to a dinosaur in the trailer, by the way, as the “Chromasaurus” – even this he gets wrong. It’s the “Tromasaurus.”

    WTF! It is easy to tell from a quick read the guy is a retard. It probably made him more angry that the film didn’t have underage titties in it. Damn you Troma and your tag lines and promises!

    But seriously “its just a movie”, a campy, cheesy, fun and somewhat boring movie. But a movie nonetheless, yet, America is attempting to drag the world back into a false sense of cinema and social security. It’s OK folks everything is safe, the moral code will be upheld and decency will prevail. Sorry world…sorry America, the world is made up of evilness beyond our wildest dreams. Many times caused by are able bodied government.

    But let’s all remember it’s just a movie…it’s just a movie…it’s just a movie….

    Well Lloyd and team maybe it’s time to just join uo with Disney, so you can exploit young girls like Hannah Montana, Britney Spears or others of their elk, dress them up like sluts and make millions. Because, hey that isn’t any form of child exploitation…now is it?

    Even though it’s not a flattering article–in fact, it’s downright libellous–I’m still pleased to see a serious magazine talking about A Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell. That’s my favourite Troma picture. It’s brilliant!

    Corwin is obviously not ‘prepubescent,’ unless she’s a Russian gymnast. And besides, it was Troma’s duty to represent Dinosaur Hell as it actually is and not censor its full horrors for lily-livered wimps who write for Slate. Verisimilitude and artistic integrity demanded multiple attempted rapes of a hot barely-legal barbarian babe. So Troma’s not to blame just because some self-appointed State Nannies can’t handle this vision of our possible dinosaur-and-rapist-infested future.
