Lloyd’s interview with Jonathan Monina of the Examiner
posted in News |A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending a great panel discussion run by Socin on the topic of Social Media and how it relates to cinema and the entertainment industry. The event touched on many interesting subjects, such as the future of distribution for independent studios, the evolution of the VOD market, and how studios have and will continue to use social media to promote their films.
Moderated by Frank Radice of Definition 6, the panel speakers included Mark Friedlander, Head of Emerging Media for SAG; Christopher Horton, Head of Acquisitions at Cinetic Media; Mark Lipsky, Founder of Insight Cinema; and Lloyd Kaufman, President of Troma Studios.
For those who don’t know Lloyd Kaufman or Troma Studios, allow me to give you a little background. Troma is perhaps known for The Toxic Avenger (1984), a cult classic which has gone on to garner international fame, as well as spawned several sequels. Avenger is by no means Troma’s only claim to fame however. They boast a library of over 200 films, and have been known to discover great up-and-coming talent, including Matt Stone and Trey Parker of “South Park.” Troma is one of (if not THE) longest running independent studios in film history. I knew that we could not waste the opportunity to meet Lloyd, who has become a bit of a hero to the aspiring independent filmmaker, so I caught up with him to set up a phone interview which I recorded. Take a peek at the clip below, and enjoy!
