New York, New York. July 22, 2016. –
Greetings from Tromaville!
Troma Entertainment will be one of the featured panels at this year’s San Diego Comic Con International on Saturday, July 23rd 2016 from 9-10 PM in room 23ABC of the San Diego Convention Center. The panel’s lineup is a diverse east meets west coast spread of young talented artists alongside their mentor Lloyd Kaufman, filmmaking legends and expert in the artist and government diplomacy of film and production, Patricia Kaufman. Troma Entertainment’s SDCC2016 panel has been announced and will include Lloyd Kaufman, Patricia Kaufman, Jason McHugh and Kansas Bowling , it was announced today by Elizabeth D’Ambrosio, spokesperson for Troma Entertainment.
The panelists will be presenting trailers created exclusively for San Diego Comic Con International 2016 that showcase three examples of Troma Movie’s most unique and innovative works represented by the panel this coming Saturday evening.
The first of these trailers is for the highly anticipated sequel and what is to be considered Lloyd Kaufman’s magnum-opus work in its completion, Return to Return to Nuke ‘Em High AKA Volume 2. The sequel to Return to Nuke ‘Em High Volume 1, which was released in 2013 and premiered at the Museum of Modern Art as part of the “Contenders of Modern Art” exhibition alongside Martin Scorsese and Stanely Kubrick, is part 5 of the Class of Nuke ‘Em High Series, which celebrated its 30th anniversary this year. Volume 1 and Volume 2 are arguably the most avante-garde and political of the entire oeuvre of Kaufman’s work and the long awaited film is teasing completion as it has just entered into sound design and color correction, with a tentative release date scheduled for Labor Day of 2016.
Panelist Lloyd Kaufman is cofounder of Troma Entertainment and an icon in the B-movie world. Lloyd started making movies during his college years at Yale University, where he studied Chinese. Kaufman has upheld Troma Entertainment as a paragon of integrity in support of the independent arts and continues to support young artists and filmmakers to pursue their moviemaking interests independently, and offers distribution to those filmmakers that may not find it anywhere else.
Panelist Patricia Kaufman was the Film Commissioner for the state of New York for 19 years until her recent retirement, as well as the deputy commissioner of Empire State Development. Mrs. Kaufman served as President of the Association of Film Commissioners International from 2003-2007. She is currently producing
Return to Return to Nuke ‘Em High AKA Volume 2 alongside her husband, director Lloyd Kaufman, whom she has been married to since 1973.
Panelist Jason McHugh i
s a television producer and actor. He has worked with South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone on Cannibal! The Musical. Electric Apricot, Les Claypool’s directorial debut rock-u-mock-u-mentary, was first released in 2006 and tells the hilarious story of an up and coming jam band’s pursuit for stardom through the lens of a documentarian with a similar fascination. The exclusive San Diego Comic Con International 2016 trailer for Electric Apricot , which was recently acquired for distribution by Troma Entertainment, will be presented by Jason McHugh, who was a producer on the movie and also stars in the film.
Kansas Bowling, a recent inductee into the Troma Institute for Gifted Youth, wrote her film
B.C. Butcher when she was only 15 years old and directed the feature length film, which was shot entirely on 16 mm film at age 19 by bussing tables in a Vietnamese Restaurant and also with the help of Lloyd Kaufman, who acted as a producer on the movie and invested in the film. Since releasing B.C. Butcher in January through Troma Entertainment Ms. Bowling has received a tremendous positive reaction from worldwide audiences. The World Premiere of B.C. Butcher was held at the historic Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, California and has since been selected for numerous festivals and screened internationally, including the Thursday Midnight screening on July 21 at the CCI Film Festival for San Diego Comic Con! Ms. Bowling will be presenting the new trailer for B.C. Butcher. Finally, Oakland based artist who just premiered his The Toxic Avenger design for a new Troma merchandise, including a 5-color print t-shirt and an enamel pin, Skinner, will be on the panel to discuss the Tromatic influence on his work and more. Skinner has shown his work all over the world in various museums, galleries and universities as well as in public spaces through his large format murals. Skinner’s designs and artwork have been celebrated and published by contemporary art magazines including Juxtapoz, Hi-Fructose, and Beautiful Decay among a number of European publications. Skinner, who prefers to keep his work accessible to the public by not limiting his collectors by attaching huge price tags to his work has created a line of unique merchandise called “Critical Hit”, which is available online www.theartofskinner.com, which allows Skinner enthusiasts of all incomes to purchase his designs for both aesthetic and utilitarian purposes!
Troma merchandise including skateboard decks, world-famous movies on DVD and blu-ray, movie posters, T-shirts and more is available all weekend of the San Diego Comic Con International 2016 in booth #4017, where Lloyd Kaufman will be signing autographs and posing for pictures for FREE!!!
